Blackpool Tops The NHS Ranking For Use Of Painkillers

NHS Data on GP Prescriptions shows that 22 of the country’s 106 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) spent more than £10 per patient on painkillers such as paracetamol, codeine and morphine last year.  Each of these CCGs was in the North – and Blackpool was top of the list, with the area’s patients most likely to need painkillers.  The area covered by the Blackpool CCG is shown in the map below.

Blackpool GP, Dr Neil Hartley Smith, told the Mail on Sunday (Sunday 1st August) that deprivation in the area meant patients had long-term conditions and complex care needs.
