Very sad news about cygnets at Cypress Point.

From Brambles Wildlife Rescue Charity.

We have attended today to a case of a deceased cygnet and a second dying one that had it’s foot trapped in pond liner in the pond at Cypress Point. They have been reported to DEFRA and the body of the deceased one needs to be left in situ so they can collect the body in the next day or two for post mortem to check for diseases such as bird flu. The dying one was taken by a member of the public to a veterinary surgery to end it’s suffering. One of the remaining cygnets looks to be weak, closing it’s eyes and no interest in food.

Please report again to DEFRA on 03459 33 55 77 if it’s condition worsens. Please continue to feed the waterfowl there, they need you to help build their strength but avoid touching them at this time.

We are unable to take any waterfowl with suspected contagious bird flu into our care due to the danger they may pose to other animals but we are assisting with advice and support where possible.
