After A Massive Refurbishment, The RSPB Fairhaven Lake Visitor Centre Reopens Next Thursday, April 29.

After months of moving walls, dismantling false ceilings, re-designing, painting, cleaning, polishing and adding brand new exciting interactive displays, the time has finally come to open the newly refurbished RSPB Visitor Centre at Fairhaven Lake. The popular and busy centre has been closed since last Autumn as part of a major overhaul of the attraction following the award of a £1.5m Heritage Lottery grant. The newly refurbished visitor centre at Fairhaven will be open on Thursday 29th April.

And the renewed, modernised attraction has a new name! Formerly the Ribble Discovery it is now called the RSPB Fairhaven Lake Visitor Centre. The new-look RSPB Visitor Centre will be the first of the refurbished buildings to reopen at the Lake, with a new water-sport centre due to open later next month and the restored café in July.

The RSPB Visitor Centre will still be home to the RSPB shop but there will be new exciting interactive information boards and screens, including a free downloadable app, for information and activity ideas for when visitors are walking around the whole site, which will be linked to the boards around the lake and gardens.  The new 360 degree rotating kiosk provides live pictures of the lake and gardens and all across the estuary, which visitors can choose and select yourself. The whole focus is to then connect back to the importance of the estuary, with the sound and sights of birds in a spectacular sound and light show throughout the building.

Jo Taylor, RSPB learning and visitor experience officer, said: ‘Alongside the improvements to the sea defence wall and promenade at Granny’s Bay this re-development of the buildings, lake and gardens is really making Fairhaven an even better place to visit. We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome people back into the newly refurbished visitor centre and RSPB shop. Our friendly team will be back on hand to help visitors discover more about the incredible wildlife of the Ribble Estuary and exploring Fairhaven Lake. Following the makeover to our shop, there’s going to be plenty of the old favourites in stock such as our popular bird food and binocular ranges along with some exciting new surprises for nature-lovers of all ages.’
