Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid Resign

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid have today (5th July) resigned from Boris Johnson’s government, saying they can no longer support the Prime Minister after he claimed to not know about 2019 allegations against MP Chris Pincher, who quit over groping claims.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Javid said he could ‘no longer, in good conscience, continue serving in this government’. He added, ‘It is clear to me that this situation will not change under your leadership – and you have therefore lost my confidence too.’

Rishi Sunak, who quit moments after Savid Javid, said, ‘The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously. I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.’
