Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Blackpool.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service around 9.30pm yesterday (Monday, March 29) to a report of a stabbing at an address on Dinmore Avenue.

Officers attended and sadly the body of a woman in her 40s was found inside the property. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

A Home Office post mortem to establish a cause of death will take place in due course.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and contact police.

Det Ch Insp Zoe Russo, of Blackpool Police said: “A murder investigation is underway following the death of a woman in Blackpool.

“These are very sad and tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the victim’s family at this time.

“While we have made an arrest we would continue to appeal to anyone with information or who feels they can assist with our enquiries to come forward.

“We recognise this will have caused some concern in the community but please be reassured incidents of this nature are rare and we have a dedicated team of detectives working on the inquiry.”

A 62-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
