Lancashire Constabulary appeal for any witnesses after reports of a teenage girl walking into the sea

At 4.20am this morning (10th August), HM Coastguard were called to North Pier in Blackpool, following reports of a teenage girl, around the age of 17, had walked into the water and has not been seen since.

The Coastguard searched the area extensively and could not find any sign of the young girl.

After speaking to the member of public who had reported the incident, they could not confirm that they had seen her walk into the sea, but they had spoken to her, left and then upon return a few minutes later she had vanished. They feared she had gone into the sea and not returned.

Some blood was found on the pier, however they cannot confirm who’s as of yet, further investigation to follow.

Officers are appealing for a witness, in the hopes that someone may have an answer as to where she had gone.

The girl is described as having long, dark hair, wearing jeans and a dark grey top, possibly dark trainers. She is thought to live in South Shore with her grandparents.

Chf Insp Eric Halford, of Blackpool Police, said: “I know an incident like this will be of concern to the public, but at this stage we are trying to establish exactly what has happened. At present we are investigating a number of possible scenarios and one is that the female has left of her own accord, maybe simply returning home.

“However, we urgently need to find the female described and I would ask anyone who may have seen her, or anybody with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, to contact police as soon as possible. If the female described sees this appeal, I would also ask her to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting log 0309 of August 9, 2020.
