Who Remembers Fylde Aid 1986 – St.Anne’s Answer To Live Aid 1985?

As festivals, concerts, theatres and sporting venues reopen, do any older Lytham St. Anne’s News readers remember the Summer of 1986 when St. Anne’s hosted its own big open air festival – Fylde Aid ’86 – shadowing the famous 1985 ‘Live Aid’ concert.  The August Bank Holiday Monday saw an eager audience visiting two big  stages hosting a wealth of not only nationally acclaimed but also many talented local bands and artistes.  These included The Icicle Works, Half Man Half Biscuit, Riverside Trio, Human Nature, Way Out West, Heat, Switzerland, Too Much Texas, Shady, Tony Williams and Clark Gable.  The event was also supported by many visiting celebrities, including local hero Les Dawson who was enlisted to draw out some raffle prizes.

Sadly the musical extravaganza never reached its much anticipated climax – as a massive storm ended the concert prematurely.
