Lytham locals all know Phil’s Bakery, just off the square near Barrique and Zest. The business was established 20 years ago in June 2000. This family run little shop sells a delightful array of breads and pastries, all homemade with an enormous amount of care.
We got in touch with Phil, and he invited Lytham St Annes News along to see his latest venture.. Pizza! Phil has been baking for 45 years, since he was only 15 years old, and he has finally decided to bring his bread making skills to the next level.
Phil is currently teaching himself how to make pizza, perfecting his dough throwing technique, hoping to open his new bakery in September 2020. His new site is situated at 4 Whalley Place, where an array of different shops and takeaways share a road, bringing locals from all around.
Using sourdough bread, Phil has created pizzas with authentic Italian flour and tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and an array of different toppings to choose from. The pizzas take minutes to make with his ferocious pizza oven that allowed us to watch as the dough became light, crusty bread.
Phil is excited to become part of the community at Whalley Place, and is hoping to place outdoor seating around his new little bakery, so people can enjoy his authentic Italian pizzas in the sunshine.
When he is ready to reopen, Phil is hoping to host pizza workshops on weekends, of course with a bit of wine to go around, he wants to teach others how he makes his delightful sourdough pizzas.
In addition, he has worked with a charity called Aspired Futures in Blackpool, for disadvantaged children. Phil set up a pizza-making night, where the children came and made pizzas for the night. He is hoping to set up a fundraising night to raise some money for the charity.
We are hoping to follow Phil on his journey to opening his new bakery, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for Lytham St Annes locals.
