Local business Whiteside Taxis which has operated for over 140 years has been subject to false and malicious rumours during the Covid-19 crisis in what can only be described as a “hate campaign” by a competitor.
Managing Director Daniel Whiteside has written the below statement to “put the record straight”.
“It is true that a certain section of the local taxi trade has been keen to see the Covid-19 crises, which has negatively impacted us all right now, as an opportunity, and have actively spread a malicious rumour that my company has gone out of business, for their own gain. Many of our regular customers have been told this lie. The sites where we have free phones in, such as Sainsburys, St. Annes, have been actively targeted; the phones have been unplugged and signs have been affixed to them stating that ‘the line has been discontinued and the company liquidated’. Then a stack of another operator’s business cards were placed by the phone. The truth is Whiteside Taxis has faithfully served the good people of the Fylde Coast for 140 years and will continue to do so for many years to come. We are here for you, 24/7 for any essential travel. We decided, for the safety of our drivers and loyal customers, we would temporarily operate a reduced service for 2 weeks when lockdown was imposed, however, some people have taken advantage of this. We are now, again, running all day, every day, 7 days a week and will continue to do so. We feel it’s a shame that, during this difficult time, entities feel the need to act with such little integrity and we hope that the public will question what they are told and what they read on social media first. They can always give us a call on 01253 711611 if they have any doubts. We are here to help”.
