BMS Community Choir create virtual performance to beat lockdown lows and bring a smile

A local community choir with members from all walks of life and all over the Fylde coast has been working around the lockdown limits by continuing their practice at home and singing together using their phones and webcams to record themselves. They have come together to create a virtual performance of ‘Everybody’s Changing’ by Keane, apt for the unrest we have been feeling during these unprecedented times.

Richard Moore who is choirmaster for the Blackpool Music Service Contemporary Choir has organised the group and put together the video.

“We’ve been steadily growing as a choir over the last year and had some great plans, all of which have had to be put on hold. Current technology doesn’t really allow for us to rehearse online, so I decided we should take up the challenge of making a virtual choir singing a song we have previously learnt. We want to help our choir members keep singing, as it gives us all something to look forward to and hopefully entertain those who are currently stuck at home.”

Martha, a member of the choir says; “Everything has changed and I don’t think there’s anyone who can say they feel the same as they did a few months ago. The choir is a bit like an extended messy family and we all have so much love and support for each other, it makes these strange times a burden shared.”

Another member Gillian shared that; “The choir has brought back my confidence after being poorly last year. Being able to sing whilst in lock down gives me hope and strength to get to the other side.”

BMS Contemporary Choir, when not in lockdown, rehearse on Thursday evenings at the Blackpool Music Service building by St George’s School.
