Bomb Squad found home made explosive devices

Blackpool Police have warned of road block and building cordoned off after yesterday’s incident.

UPDATE: A cordon remains in place following an incident in Bolton Street, Blackpool.

Around 2.50pm yesterday (Thursday, November 26) we attended an address after a report a man was behaving suspiciously.

Officers from Blackpool Police’s Taskforce team searched the man and an item, initially believed to be a shotgun, was found. During a search of the property a suspicious package was also found.

The man was arrested by officers with an immediate cordon put in place.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended and following further inspection found both the shotgun and package to be improvised explosive devices. The IEDs were dismantled and made safe.

As part of our investigation the building will be fully searched today by specially trained officers and a cordon remains in place.

Supt Damian Kitchen, of Blackpool Police, said: “We do not believe there is any wider threat to the community and we are treating this as an isolated incident.

“A cordon remains in place while the building is searched today.

“We would like to thank people for their patience and understanding. We will update you in due course.”

A 58-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms offences and remains in custody.
