Boris set to announce a 1 week Christmas-Lockdown-Relaxation plan, with restrictions eased during festive period

It has been confirmed in a statement by Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove, following talks with leaders, which stated they have all “endorsed a shared objective” of changing the rules “for a small number of days” over Christmas to allow “additional household bubbling.”

The system will reportedly be in force from 22nd to 28th December, and allow a small number of households to form a bubble in order to celebrate Christmas together.

News sources have reported that it is likely that families will be allowed to attend Christmas Church Services and that pubs and restaurants may be able to open past 10pm for the duration of the week.

It is expected that the 10pm curfew will be extended from 10pm to 11pm in order to allow families to celebrate a little longer during the festive period.

Foreshadowing the prime minister’s Commons statement, Number 10 said: “It will also set out how people will be able to see their loved ones at Christmas, despite ministers being clear this will not be a normal festive period.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce which parts of the country will come out of lockdown on the 2nd December following a month-long isolation period for the country. Due to the steady fall of numbers in the North West, it is expected that our area will come out of lockdown in a better state than going in, and experience lighter restrictions.

“Everyone’s efforts during the current national restrictions have helped bring the virus back under control, slowed its spread and eased pressures on the NHS,” a Number 10 spokesperson said.

But the prime minister and his scientific advisers are clear the virus is still present – and without regional restrictions it could quickly run out of control again before vaccines and mass testing have had an effect.”
