BREAKING NEWS: Lancashire in Tier 3, Pubs and Bars to close for lockdown, CONFIRMED

It has been confirmed that Lancashire is to go into Tier 3, as agreed by country leaders. This means that bars and pubs will have to close as the county goes into lockdown once again. A formal announcement is expected today. The government has confirmed the restrictions will come into place from midnight.

Tier 3 rules include no socialising of households indoors or in private gardens, and bars and pubs must close unless they can operate as a restaurant.

Although this means many venues will have to close their doors, this may come to a relief to pub owners as it seemed that the new restrictions this week have been ‘scaring customers away’

In an interview with LancsLive, George White who owns the No.10 Ale House in St Annes who’s pub is down 40 per cent, a huge knock for an independent business.

He told the county news site that a move to tier three could actually be beneficial for the business as the restrictions of Tier 2 outweigh the limited support of Tier 3.

“We are not getting any financial support in Tier 2 but they’re scaring my customers away so we are actually losing money,” said George.

“Put us into Tier 3 so at least we are covered by some grants and support for our workers’ wages.

“In Tier 2 we can remain open but you’re scaring our customers away. At the moment we are in limbo.”

Many businesses in Lytham St Annes will remain open as restaurants but customers will only be able to drink alcohol with a meal. This will cut down socialising and mixing indoors which is the suspected cause of the virus spreading.

With the new restrictions in place, hopefully we will see a decline in case numbers and the county can get back on track to “normal life.”
