In this edition of Business Focus, your Lytham St Anne’s News focuses on The Crafty Cottage.  We met Louise Wiltshire the proprietor of this venture, and she told us the below:

“The business started as most do out of necessity – I had just had a baby and bought my own house, but was so skint I couldn’t afford furniture. I spent many a day pushing my pram around the streets of Blackpool looking for abandoned and broken pieces that had been left out on the street that I could take home and somehow renovate. My quirky and eclectic style soon had family and friends commenting and requesting I do items for them too which I duly did. It was only recently that my other half suggested I set up a Facebook page to showcase my items – a page that to date has nearly 1300 followers! I have started to study at Manchester’s famous ‘Ministry of Upholstery’ – as seen on tv’s ‘Money For Nothing’ with a view to offering courses to help those in the same financial boat as I was to get the home they deserve without getting in debt for the privilege. I will also be offering weekly workshops to anyone who feels that they want to try something new, get a new hobby or just re-ignite their love for anything art and crafty. There will also be gifts, home wares and original artwork supplied by local artists and crafters – I feel it is important to showcase the best of what is on offer in our local area. We are calling it an ‘Artist Collective’ – we are all promoting each other to help raise the profiles of the amazing artistry available here on our own doorstep. I am thrilled to have my shop on St Andrew’s Road South, I feel it is an area of St Anne’s that is seeing a huge resurgence with independent businesses choosing to open such as Farina and co, The Magic Loop, Abode and Planning a Party – it truly has a fabulous Retro feel, rather like Manchester’s Northern Quarter but on a smaller scale! I would love to see more independent businesses flourish in St Anne’s as I feel that the more diversity and quality we can offer the consumer, the more people will flock to our shops knowing they will find something unique and that bit more special.”
