Celebrate 100 Years Of Buses On The Fylde Coast With Free Events & Rides

Friday 2nd July 2021 marks 100 years since Blackpool Transport (then named Blackpool Corporation) operated its first bus route. To celebrate the occasion Blackpool Transport have put together a wealth of special events and FREE scenic rides from Friday 2nd July to Sunday 4th July.

Friday 2nd July

  • Special Heritage Bus Tours: 14:00, 16:00, 18:00     Departing from Blundell Street (Rigby Road), travelling along the Promenade to Cleveleys, then following much of the route of the first ever bus route operated by Blackpool Transport, returning via the Promenade to Rigby Road. Duration: 1 hour 15 mins          Price: £3 adults per person                    (Pre-booking is essential – Booking available soon)

Saturday 3rd July

  • Bus Parade: 10am      This will see a convoy of up to 20 buses take place from Starr Gate to North Pier from 10am. Buses in the parade will date back as far as 1959, displaying buses through the ages. Members of the public are welcome to view the parade from any location along the promenade.
  • Bus Display: 12 – 4pm – Blackpool Tower Headland    A static display of 10 rare vintage buses will take place opposite Blackpool Tower on the Comedy Carpet. You’re invited to come and take a look at the display of buses where there will be a range of merchandise and information to share and discuss. You’ll also be able to pick up a free copy of the commemorative Blackpool Bus100 booklet.
  • Free Vintage bus rides: Service 1: 12 – 6pm  Ride on Heritage buses along Blackpool’s Promenade between Starr Gate and Gynn Square. Buses will run every 15 minutes. Just turn up and go, no pre-booking needed. A timetable will be available soon. All journeys are FREE of charge but donations are welcome. Any donations collected will contribute to our company charity for 2021 which is Trinity Hospice as well as the preservation of the Heritage Trams.
  • Beer & Buses event: From 7pm   Time to socialise whilst riding around on some classic Blackpool buses from yesteryear. The Fylde Transport Trust will be linking Blackpool’s North Pier with Castle Gardens and Poulton hostelries on a FREE bus service, departing every 30 minutes from 1900 to 22:30 with the last departure from Poulton at 23:00. Turn up and go, no pre-booking required.

Sunday 4th July

  • Special Heritage Bus Tours: 11am, 1pm, 3pm     Departing from Blundell Street (Rigby Road), travelling along the Promenade to Cleveleys, then following much of the route of the first ever bus route operated by Blackpool Transport, returning via the promenade to Rigby Road.                                                  Duration: 1 hour 15 mins    Price: £3 adults per person                                                                                     Pre-booking is essential. Booking will be available soon.
  • Zoo & Stanley Park Circular Tours   FREE Classic buses to Stanley Park and Blackpool Zoo, operating to/from Blackpool Tower every 20 minutes from 10:30 to 16:00, provided by Fylde Transport Trust. Turn up and go, no pre-booking required.
  • Free Vintage bus rides: Service 1: 11 – 5pm Ride on Heritage buses along Blackpool’s Promenade between Starr Gate and Gynn Square. Buses will run every 15 minutes. Just turn up and go, no pre-booking needed. A timetable will be available soon. All journeys are free of charge but donations are welcome.
