A Citroen driver who last night (Friday 11th November) ran over a police officer on the M55 at Kirkham and was pursued at speeds of up to 140 mph has been arrested. The 80 mile chase involved officers from Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and the North West Motorway Police. The suspect was eventually detained on the M6 in Stoke after officers forced the car to stop. After the incident, Merseyside Police’s Road Policing Unit shared a picture of the car which had been stopped under heavy police pressure. This is the featured photograph.
A spokesperson for Lancashire’s Road Police Unit tweeted (Saturday 12th November): “Citroen which ran over Police Officer on M55 Kirkham pursued through neighbouring forces at up to 140mph before being stopped using TPAC Tactics at Junction 16 M6. Driver arrested for wounding and dangerous driving. Thankfully the officer only has minor injuries.”
A later photograph of the car shows the vehicle with a smashed windscreen.
