Panic buyers have been frantically clearing shelves in Lytham due to the fear that the Coronavirus will strike the area.
Sainsburys on Clifton Street had a male panic buyer take two full boxes of hand sanitising gel leaving none for any other customers. A shop assistant said they are expecting another delivery to come in tomorrow but they cannot stop people mass buying. A shopper in store said “I think there is local racketeering on the gel and reselling them for hundreds”.
Meanwhile at Savers, also on Clifton Street their shelves are also lacking hand sanitising gel. The shop assistant there said “we literally sold out in two hours”.
Booths in Lytham also didn’t have any gel, but ironically they were selling Corona bottles at £1 each which is considerably lower than the usual RRP. The company that owns Corona beer is facing its worst quarter in 10 years following the coronavirus outbreak with reported losses of £132 million.
