Crowds Gather As Queen Seemingly Makes An Unexpected Blackpool Royal Visit

Visitors to Blackpool were given an unexpected royal treat as they caught a glimpse of Her Majesty regally riding down the Promenade. Enjoying her seafront ride in an open carriage and heralded by the Royal Yorkshire Military Band, a brand-new waxwork of Queen Elizabeth II travelled along the Prom before taking up residence in Madame Tussauds, where the figure will replace the one that was made in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The figure of the Queen, 95, was seen dressed in a pink blazer and skirt suit and she was sporting her trademark pearl earrings, necklace and a floral diamond encrusted brooch with a pearl centrepiece

Stuart Jarman, General Manager at Madame Tussauds, said, ‘ We have never has a character make such a dramatic entrance but, if such an extravaganza was to happen for anyone, or course, it has to be Her Majesty!’

He added, ‘A team of most skilled, artistic and passionate people from around the world are involved in making the perfect wax figure, and attention to detail is key.  The eyes are hand painted and every little detail is duplicated, including using fine red silk threads as veins in the whites of the eyes.  Our costume department also works with some of the world’s most sought after designers and stylists to ensure we are getting the figure 100% right to ensure that the fanes will love it.’

Each of the waxworks on display in the attraction takes a team of 25 artists a total of 800 hours to create, including 350 hours to sculpt the figure, 187 hours to insert a head of hair, and 30 hours to make a set of teeth.

The Queen will be on display in the Royal Quarter of Madame Tussauds in preparation for her Diamond Jubilee next year.
