Due to increased numbers of beach go-ers since the lockdown restrictions have been put in effect by the government, the road restrictions placed at Starr Gate have also been increased to deter drivers from parking on the access road for costal services and to the tram depot.
There have always been some restrictions on the road and parking is prohibited, however new tow warning signs have been installed, and yet there are more drivers parking there than ever.
Not only are drivers parking on the roads, causing difficulty in accessing the tram depot and for the coastal services needing access to the beach, but one driver was seen blasting out music and vaping. Bearing in mind that coronavirus is passed on through droplets in the breath which could be carried further when vaping, this is putting the health of others at further risk.
With the public now being advised they can drive short distances to exercise, could there be even more beach goers and their vehicles parked on the road causing further essential access issues? And will traffic police step in to put the towing warnings to full effect?
