Lancashire Police were alerted this morning (Wednesday 1st March) to reports that a car was driving along the tram tracks before coming to an abrupt stop. Officers attended the incident om Crescent West in Thornton-Cleveleys and the woman driver was breath tested, the subsequent result proving to be over the alcohol limit. The 39-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of drink driving.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘We were called to an RTC where a vehicle has entered the tram tracks and come to a stop. The driver was located and subsequently arrested after providing a breath sample which was over the prescribed limit of alcohol. Luckily no one was harmed.’
The Volkswagen car was recovered from the tracks ahead of tram services resuming in the morning.
