Emergency services rescue swan stranded on frozen lake in Stanley Park

Concerned locals on their daily walk in Stanley Park called the police after they spotted a swan stuck on the frozen lake around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 6th Jan).

PCSO Anna Morris requested the help of Blackpool and Fleetwood fire crews, who used an inflatable sled to paddle to the swan’s rescue. The fire crew were reportedly at the scene for approximately 2 hours.

Firefighters reportedly had to break the ice to free the poor swan who was stranded on the frozen boating lake.

The rescuers swiftly brought the swan to shore and handed it to the RSPCA where it is receiving care. The swan will be returned to its home in Stanley park once it has recovered.

PCSO Anna Morris said: “Yesterday afternoon (January 6), the Blackpool South neighbourhood team were called to a Swan trapped in ice on the lake at Stanley Park.

“Our colleagues from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service did a fantastic job and the swan is now safe and warm with the RSPCA.”
