Fylde’s Fatties To Be First In Queue For Covid Jab

The fattest residents in Lytham St Anne’s will be joining the most obese people the UK at the front of the queue for the new coronavirus vaccine.  One in eight adults in the UK are classed as morbidly obese, the fattest category in rankings.  This means that there are about 2 million people people, defined by having a BMI of over 40, in this group. (For comparison, a healthy BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range.). Data shows that these morbidly obese people are almost twice more likely to die from Covid-19 than healthy folk.

This group of obese people will now be prioritised over millions of Britons aged 50 to 65 for their Codid-19 jab Government guidance has confirmed.

The updated official advice says morbidly obese people should now be included in the ‘at-risk’ adult group and get access ahead of everyone under 65. This was revealed in revised Public Health England guidance for vaccines published on the official Government website.

The first few million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, expected to be dished out next month, were originally to be reserved for care home residents and their carers.

But it emerged on Thursday (26.11.2020) that NHS workers will be the first to be protected due to logistical issues with storing and distributing a vaccine.
