Grieving Families Left Distressed By Dog Fouling At Cemetery

Patrols stepped up as grieving families face distressing scenes at loved ones’ graves.

Dog owners are being urged to show respect after a worrying increase in reports of dogs fouling on and around graves at Fylde’s cemetery and crematorium.

Fylde Council says the cemetery is a place where families come to remember and reflect on loved ones they have lost – and discovering dog mess during a visit is something no one should have to experience.

While the vast majority of responsible dog owners do the right thing, the council says a small minority are spoiling the peaceful surroundings for others.

Visitors walking their dogs are being reminded to:

🐾 Keep dogs on a lead at all times.

🐾 Keep them away from graves.

🐾 Always bag up and bin dog waste.

The warning comes with a financial sting too. Anyone who fails to clean up after their dog could be hit with a £100 fixed penalty notice.

Fylde Council has also confirmed that officers will be carrying out patrols around the cemetery and crematorium to help tackle the problem.

The message is simple: show respect for those who have passed away – and for the families who come to remember them.
