Has Squires Gate Station been forgotten?
Squires Gate Station is in a shambles and is only getting worse. The station has been left by Lancashire County Council to become increasingly neglected. The station is suffering from vandalism, pollution and fly-tipping, causing it to look extremely dishevelled to locals and more importantly, the holiday goers that will be using our local transport links in the near future when the coastal area is in season.
One local resident described the stations state as; “Disgusting. Why has it been left to look to bad for so long? There’s no point putting pretty flower pots on the platform when there’s junk everywhere… You can’t polish a turd.”
There has been a Lidl trolley dumped over the railing which has been left there for months, and recently a gutted mattress has been dumped on the other side of the station. Not to mention the heaps of litter that has blown into the overgrown trees and shrubbery.
Squires Gate station has been subjected to repeated acts of vandalism too, in the form of graffiti and destruction of the stations signage, where a poster frame has been pulled off and left jammed into the stairway railings.
Lancashire County Council has been approached for comment, but has yet to respond.
Will they clean up their act, and clean up our railway stations too?
