The Nitrous Oxide issue is getting worse in the area. Local litter picking groups are constantly finding the canisters alongside baloons.
SOS Lytham St Annes, who are well known in the area for organising litter collection have said the following:
I’ve spoken to the police today regarding the amount of Nitrous Oxide canisters that are regularly being found in Lytham St Annes & they would like our help. Please read this post in full ⬇️
Nitrous Oxide is also known as “laughing gas” but the law makes it no laughing matter, nor are the health risks. It is a depressant-type drug, which means it slows down your brain and your body’s responses, resulting in unconsciousness or death from lack of oxygen as it is effectively pushed out of the lungs by the gas. Stopping the supply of these canisters could save a life.
The Psychoactive Substances Act came into effect on 26 May 2016. It is now illegal to supply or import nitrous oxide for human consumption.
If you spot these canisters around your local area please inform the police by email with the log number in the subject line. Please also include a specific location, preferably by using the app “what3words”; more info below.
It would be enormously helpful if you could pinpoint the exact location that you found the canisters by using the app “what3words”, an app the Police use. The app has divided the whole world into 3m x 3m squares, each identified by 3 words. For instance, the Fylde Spitfire Memorial at Fairhaven is in a square named with the 3 words “identify.rural.camp”
