Dominic Cummings (pictured below) is under fire for travelling 260 miles from his home in London to Durham during the lockdown. Fortunately he wasn’t one of the many visitors to Lytham during the lockdown, despite a journey for Dominic to Lytham being a shorter, but still lengthy, 196 miles.
If you travelled from Lytham St Anne’s for 260 miles how far could you go! Heading north, Glasgow is about 200 driving miles – so you could head off for the Highlands!. Heading South you could certainly make it well into Devon, as Plymouth is 240 miles away – so you soak up the sun on the English Riviera. A trip to Bristol would be 164 miles – so you could then head towards Wales.
Meanwhile, many in Lytham St Anne’s who have strictly abided by the lockdown feel deeply aggrieved by Dominic’s journey – despite his reported excuses. Lytham St Anne’s reader Tim Lime has shared his views: ‘I have not seen my children or grandchildren for nearly eight full works. I have rigorously followed the guidelines for the good of the whole community. I really value the work of our NHS, plus shop workers, transport workers and those great people still keeping our society running. It seems that there is one law for those at the top, such as Dominic Cummings, and one for us.’
