Illuminations Season Extended – The Lights Will Shine Through Christmas And Into The New Year (2022)

Councillor Gillian Campbell, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture, has announced that the resort’s famous Illuminations will run for an extra two months, until Monday 3rd January 2022 at a meeting of the full council last night (Wednesday 10th February 2021).  The switch on celebration will be hosted on Friday 3rd September.  The Council say they have made this decision early so businesses can start to plan for the extended season. The Council also hopes that extending the Illuminations through Christmas and New Year will in some way help make up for the massive loss of trade through the Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

Visit Blackpool have said, ‘Our world-famous Illuminations need little introduction. There are six miles of traditional festoons and tableaux along the Promenade – no wonder it’s commonly known as the greatest free light show on Earth! And in 2021, Blackpool Illuminations will be shining from 3 September – 3 January 2022.
