Boris Johnson is set to make an announcement to the nation at 8pm this evening.
ITV political editor tweeted “PM will be directly addressing the nation. It will not be a press conference. Tier 4 restrictions will be imposed everywhere. Schools closed. No more team games in parks. But outdoor exercise will still be allowed.
A No 10 spokesman said that the move to increase restrictions was in response to the “rapidly escalating” numbers of infections following the emergence of the new variant.
Many media sources are predicting this crippling lockdown could last until Easter bringing frustration to working mothers who will have to stop work. Julie, a working-mother, who commutes from St Annes to Kirkham for an energy company said “I’m going to have to give up work if the schools close again – I cannot work from home with my daughters as my husband has a high-powered job and they take all my attention. I’m utterly devastated”.
