As the weather turned and the wind whipped up, kite surfers flocked to the high tides of Lytham St Anne’s beach this morning to take advantage of the high speed winds and choppy waters.
The colourful kites rose and dove with the winds above the sea, as surfers hung tight, pulled the strings and used their boards to surf the waves at high speed, often lifting into the air and performing impressive tricks.
It was unclear whether the kite surfers were part of a larger group, or were all there individually, however most seemed to congregate on the same stretch of beach, possibly due to a sporting advantage that section offered.
Passers by, like myself, enjoyed the spectacle, pausing to observe and photograph the surfers and the array of kites flocking together in a colourful congregation against the blue skies and fluffy clouds.
Lytham and Blackpool are known as great kite surfing spots in the UK, and on days like today when the weather conditions are perfect, you can see why.
