Face coverings become mandatory in shops, supermarkets, shopping centres and enclosed transport hubs from today but Lancashire Police have requested that locals do not call them if they see individuals not wearing them. They have issued a reminder that some people are exempt and some people have invisible illnesses. The police also stated that they need their lines free for people who need a police response in an emergency. However, Lancashire Police have asked that if you see a business where regulations are consistently not being applied.
This comes as a relief to a many locals as there were fear of “face covering shaming” photographs appearing on the local Facebook groups and social media.
Face coverings also must be worn in additional enclosed public spaces from today (24 July) in England, as the government takes further steps to help curb the spread of the virus.
