A seething furloughed Lytham hotel worker has contacted Lytham St Anne’s News to share her anger that she can no longer watch Little Britain on her recently acquired Britbox subscription platform.
She says: ‘Having subscribed to Britbox during the lock-down, I was enjoying watching a range of classic comedy shows during the last few weeks. They really cheered me up as I was missing my mates at the hotel where I work. I particularly love Matt Lucas and David Walliams. But now one of my favourite shows, Little Britain, has been removed. I thought I lived in a free country and could make my own choices. I’m am now being told what I can and can’t watch. What will be the next to go?’
Little Britain, together with Come Fly With Me, had already been removed by Netflix – and the BBC iPlayer service and Britbox have confirmed that they too have removed Little Britain, saying that the series is no longer acceptable because of the use of inappropriate characterisations. Britbox have commented, ‘Times have changed since Little Britain first aired, so it is not currently available on BritBox.’ It is believed that the availability of ‘The League of Gentleman’ and other series with inappropriate depictions of characters are also under close scrutiny.
