Lytham St Anne’s In Second Place For English Towns With The Oldest Populations

Lytham St Anne’s has a median age of 54 years among its population according to new Census data, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This puts Lytham St. Anne’s in second place in the data for English towns with the oldest populations.

The age statistics for medium-sized towns (outside London) where the population is between 20,000 and 74,999’ show:

  • 1st place with a median age of 56 Rustington in West Sussex
  • Joint 2nd place with a median age of 54 Lytham St Anne’s, Seaford in East Sussex, Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex

These findings are from the latest data to be released from the census which took place on March 21, 2021. The median age is the midpoint of all the ages in a particular population group – in other words, half the population have ages that are above the median and half have ages that are below.
