Lytham St Anne’s RNLI have once again been called out to assist in a rescue which has ended in tragedy. A spokesperson for our brave volunteers said, ‘We were called out at 1.48am this morning to assist Blackpool Police, Coastguard, Blackpool & Fleetwood RNLI in the search for a missing male in the sea off Blackpool North Pier. We searched all morning until we were stood down at 5.50am.’
The Blackpool Gazette has reported the following statement from a police spokesperson: “We were called at around 1.30am this morning to reports a man had gone into the sea near to the Metropole Hotel in Blackpool. Emergency services attended and searches were carried out. Sadly, shortly after 5.40am a body was recovered from the water. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner. The man’s family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.’
