Lytham St Annes set to be battered by strong winds as weather warning confirmed

Strong winds are set to batter Lytham St Annes this weekend with the arrival of Storm Arwen causing the Met Office to issue a yellow weather alert.

The alert covers the Fylde Coast and surrounding areas, warning of strong winds throughout Friday and Saturday.

The alert will remain in place from 9am Friday to 6pm on Saturday.

The Met Office warns that:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Some damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

While not subject to a full weather warning, there is likely to be a fair amount of rain in the same period through Friday.

Lytham St Annes, however, will avoid the worst of the storm, which is set to hit the North East.
