Man Arrested After Police Take Cover Following Bombardment From Lytham Road Roof

Police were called last night (Monday 13th March) at around 7.30 p.m.  to an incident where a man was hurling items off the roof of The Bridge Pub on Lytham Road, Blackpool. The man had climbed up scaffolding and once on the roof he commenced throwing objects endangering those passing below.

Police were called, but the 41-year-old man refused to come down. As there was a serious danger to those below, Police closed surrounding roads to protect the public. However, the officers themselves were forced to seek shelter when they too were bombarded with bottles and roof tiles. These objects damaged a police van. Smashed glass and other debris were reported to be scattered along the adjacent roads and pavements.

The standoff continued for around 6 hours until the man gave himself up and came down at 1.25 a.m. today (Tuesday 14th March). An ambulance also attended the incident.

A 41-year-old man from Blackpool has been arrested on suspicion of public order – affray and currently remains in custody.
