May Holiday Sand Dune Fire Caused By Disposable Barbeque

The May Holiday weekend saw a blaze (shown in the featured photographs) occurring on the sand dunes near the Windsports Centre – the cause of which is said to be a disposable barbeque.

As the weather improves, Fylde Council wish to take the opportunity to remind everyone that BBQs are banned in our parks and open spaces and that fixed penalty notices will be issued. Orders banning the use of barbeques and outdoor cooking  under The Public Spaces Protection Orders for BBQs and open fires, came into effect from 1st July 2022 for a period of 3 years. Failure to comply with the orders will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £50 or possible prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court for a criminal offence and a consequent fine of up to £1,000.

The Orders prohibit BBQs and outdoor cooking on a number of the Fylde  Borough’s open spaces; a full list of which can be found below.
