Mid-Week Severe Summer Storms Forecast For Fylde Coast!

The UK’s national weather service has warned of extreme weather likely to affect the Fylde coast on Wednesday next week, with a potential risk of flooding.

The mid-week rainstorms could bring disruption with the Met Office stating: ‘Where these storms occur, rainfall totals of 30-40 mm could fall in an hour, with some locations potentially receiving 60-80 mm in 3 hours, although these will be fairly isolated. There is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.’

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: ‘Although some places will miss these heavy showers and thunderstorms, where they do occur they’ll be quite lively bringing torrential downpours. With this heavy rain falling in a short time we could see some disruption to transport or damage to properties due to localised flooding, as well as the chance of lightning.’

Map below shows the rainfall forecast at 10.00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
