New Chief Inspector For Blackpool & Fylde Appointed

Blackpool and Fylde has a new Chief Inspector as John Jennings-Wharton has been appointed to this important post, with focused responsibility for looking after Response policing.

The new Chief Inspector, John Jennings-Wharton, started his career over twenty five years ago, in 1997, with Lancashire Constabulary as a Public Enquiry Assistant and Special Constable at Clitheroe.

In 2001, he joined as a Police Constable based in Blackburn and remained there until he specialised and carried out numerous roles within Tactical Operations, formerly known as Traffic, including being appointed as a Family Liaison Officer for which he has been nationally recognised for his commitment in this field.

During his  time in Blackburn, he led numerous investigations into road deaths, for which he is extremely proud of the justice he has helped secure for not only the victims, but also their families.

Since moving to West Division in April 2020, he has carried out roles in Response and Neighbourhood Policing across Blackpool, Lancaster and Morecambe.

During his most recent role as Geographic Inspector for Neighbourhood Policing in Blackpool South, he gained a wealth of experience including forging strong links with local partners.

Chief Inspector Jennings-Wharton says, ‘I’m excited to take on this new role – I have really enjoyed getting stuck into what affects our communities and working with a multitude of partners to help solve ongoing problems for all the good law-abiding citizens of Blackpool and Fylde.

It has been a huge learning curve but a very enjoyable one – during which I have worked with some amazing people and I am looking forward to using these skills within the response policing function to ensure we remain victim focused.

I am very proud to be joining the Senior Management Team at West Division, and I am really looking forward to working alongside and supporting the Response teams that provide around the clock protection to our most vulnerable people in society and doing everything we can to bring offenders to justice.’

The former Response Chief Inspector for Blackpool and Fylde, CI Dave Hannan will be moving to Lancaster, Morecambe and Wyre Neighbourhood Policing and Partnerships.
