A deal has been agreed with Blackpool Council today (Friday 29th July) to bring one of the country’s largest IMAX cinema experiences to the town as part of a brand new, state-of-the-art complex.
Called the Backlot Cinema, the planned, high-tech entertainment venue will boast nine screens, 850 luxury seats and a restaurant.
IMAX cinemas traditionally have a dome circular and huge plain screen that almost cover the entire theatre, which make you feel like a part of the film. Most IMAX movies go through a Digital Re-mastering which turns an already powerful film into an incredible IMAX film with enhanced images and sounds to create a sensational experience. In Blackpool, the 19-metre-tall immersive screen will be the centrepiece of the £6m advanced cinema complex in Tower Street, which is part of the £21m extension to the Houndshill Shopping Centre. It is hoped to open in about 12 months’ time.
