Mark Menzies, our recently re-elected MP, has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, demanding improvements on the current service from Preston to our area. Mark has perceptively realised that there is only one track on our local line, and with the government planning to restore some of the country’s railways, he hopes his significant intervention will result in a better service for his constituents.
Mark Menzies has written:
“Here we have a railway which lost its second track, and the ability to run any semblance of a decent timetable. The South Fylde railway line can only support one service per hour at present, usually consisting of two carriages. This line serves the towns of Kirkham, Lytham and St Annes in Fylde, and also two of the biggest tourism attractions in the United Kingdom in Blackpool South – Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterpark.’
Mark continues by asking to meet with Grant Shapps to discuss submitting and application for funding that would allow more than once service at a time on this line. Let’s hope Mark’s demands are not derailed, and we are now on track for a better service.
