Over 50s in Lytham St. Anne’s Told To Book A Jab While They Still Can

Over-50s in Lytham St. Anne’s are being urged to book a jab while they still can – as it emerged some vaccine centres will temporarily close due to looming supply issues. Anybody aged 50 or over can book themselves in for a first dose before March 29 online using the national booking system for England.

Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, director of public health for Lancashire County Council, has joined the call for under 50s to get their first vaccine doses before the end of March. Speaking about the situation in Lancashire, Dr Karunanithi told LancsLive: ‘The supply issues that we currently face mean that the first dose of vaccine for those that are about 50 will be paused from April so that people who are due for their second dose are prioritised. Between now and the end of this month there are still slots available for those who are around 50. I would strongly, strongly advise people to make the best use of that time to go and get the jab in the next week or so.”

The focus will turn to ensuring there are sufficient vaccine stocks to give second doses, with staff at many larger centres redeployed. NHS England has said no first appointments should be booked for people under the age of 50 unless they fall into a higher priority group, such as those who are clinically vulnerable.

Shortfalls are expected in the UK from March 29 for a month.  Under-50s therefore may have to wait until May to get their vaccinations.
