The Government’s free school meal scheme has allowed parents and caters to sign up for summer free school meals; qualifying children receiving a £op voucher to cover meals over the 6 week period.

The Government have warned parents, however, that their time is almost up as they are required to apply 7 days before their child’s school closes for summer.

The scheme comes as a saving grace for families who are struggling with funds during COVID crisis. This will avoid malnourishment and children being too hungry during the summer period.

The Government agreed to extend the original school meal fund to summer thanks to 22 year old footballer Marcus Rashford. Speaking from experience of childhood poverty, the young footballer encourage the government to make a U-turn on plans to cut the fund off when summer holidays began.
