Police have been made aware that at 2.35 pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday 22nd August) a young woman was struck by the car, which was travelling south towards St Anne’s. The car was allegedly overtaking a second vehicle, on the A584 Promenade near to the Solaris Centre. The woman, who is in her 20s, was pushing a pram which she so fortunately managed to push out of the way before she was struck by the car. The woman later attended Blackpool Victoria Hospital as a precaution. The child in the pram was not injured.

Police say that the woman escaped with just minor injuries while, thanks to her quick-thinking, her baby escaped unhurt. A manhunt has now been launched to find the male motorist involved, who stopped to see if his victim wasn’t seriously hurt before driving off.

Sgt Mick Belfield, of Lancashire Police Tactical Operations, said: ‘We are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened and we need the public’s help in identifying the vehicles involved. This incident happened on what is normally a busy road and we are asking for any witnesses to come forward. We are particularly keen for anybody with dashcam footage to get in touch.’

Anyone with information is asked to email 199@lancashire.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1103 of August 22, 2020.
