A woman’s body was discovered in the pond at the heart of Lowther Gardens in Lytham this morning, prompting a major emergency services response.

Police were called to the scene at around 9am on Monday, September 7, after reports that a body had been found in the water.

Officers, paramedics and other emergency services attended, but tragically the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lancashire Police have confirmed that her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesperson said: “At 9am on Monday, September 7, we were called to reports of a body found in a pond at Lowther Gardens, Lowther Terrace, Lytham.

“Emergency services attended the scene and very sadly found the body of a woman.

“Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.”

The incident led to part of the gardens being cordoned off while officers carried out their enquiries.

However, The Lowther Pavilion was given permission to reopen at around 11am, allowing its scheduled afternoon classical recital and evening concert by Rick Wakeman to go ahead.

Lowther chief executive and artistic director Tim Lince said: “We just followed police instructions and we got on with work as usual.”

A report will now be prepared for HM Coroner.
