Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has this afternoon (Monday 9th May) said he will quit if given a fine by Durham police for breaking lockdown rules. Angela Rayner also confirmed she would step down if issued with a fine.
The Labour leader has issued a statement saying that ‘If the police decide to issue me with a FPN I would of course do the right thing and step down.’ Sir Keir added that he had been in self-isolation six times, and obeyed the rules when his father-in-law was ill.
Angela Rayner echoed Sir Keir Starmer’s stance, saying in a statement: ‘If I were issued with a fine, I would do the decent thing and step down.’
