Super busy hot day today for HM COASTGUARD LYTHAM

These guys never stop…. (only for lunch if no callouts 😉)

From their page ❗Emergency call out x5❗(July 19)

We’ve had a hot and challenging day!

Our first emergency call came through at 03.46 to assist Fylde Police with an incident around the St Anne’s Pier area, fortunately the incident was quickly resolved and we were stood down on route.

Our second emergency call out came through at 12.58 to reports of 2 people stuck in the mud in the Lytham area, close to Lytham Jetty.
After fantastic multi agency work alongside Knott-End Coastguard Rescue Team and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official), the 2 casualties were safely rescued and brought to shore where they were then passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust. Fylde Police were also in attendance.

Our third, forth & fifth emergency call outs came through in quick succession. At 17.12 we received reports of two missing children on St Anne’s Beach, we arrived on scene and liased with the family, we then commenced a search of the tide line, as the tide was flooding we discovered 4 people in immediate danger after being cut off by the incoming tide, 2 of the people successfully waded back, however the other 2 needed assistance from RNLI Blackpool, the crew then got them aboard their ILB and brought them back to shore and passed them into our care.

As we were returning to base, we discovered a deceased porpoise on the beach. Measurements and other information was taken and passed onto Holyhead MRCC for the Natural History Museum.

We then had a bite to eat and headed back to station for a training session where we assisted our two new recruits with their map reading and navigational skills, communication on VHF, and knott tying!
We can’t wait for them to go live, they will be a fantastic asset to the team!

If you see a coastal emergency, dial 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for the Coastguard.
