Teen charged with assault after hospitalizing a Blackpool police officer
A 14 year old boy has been charged with assault after he kicked a police officer in the head and left him unconscious. The incident took place on Monday evening after the officer was called out to the Millbourne Street/Gorton Street area of Blackpool.
The attack is the latest of over 100 incidents reported in the last few months, including nuisance, criminal damage and assault, all committed by a small group of individuals. The police have stepped up presence in the area to help reassure the community and keep them safe. Extra neighbourhood officers, plain clothed officers and mounted officers currently patrol the streets.
The Blackpool Neighbourhood Policing Inspector has pleaded with parents to take responsibility for their children and make the area a safer place to live and work.
Inspector David Wilson comments; “We have worked tirelessly with partners in the council and the parents of these youngsters in an effort to avoid unnecessarily criminalising these individuals, but unfortunately this approach has not borne fruit. We will use all the powers available to us to target this group and we will put offenders before the courts.
