The plan put forward to knock down The Mayfield in St Anne’s has been refused by Fylde Council Planning Officers. Developers wished to demolish the building, also known as the Royal British Legion Club, with three detached homes, each with three bedrooms.
Paul Walker, director of development services at Fylde Council said that demolition of the pub would result in the loss of a community facility. He also added that the three proposed houses were of poor design and would have a harmful impact on the appearance of the street scene. The projected development of the three houses would fail to improve the character and quality of the area.
The Mayfield, located at 88 Mayfield Road, shut its doors on March 20th following the Government’s decision to close all bars and clubs to combat the spread of Coronavirus. Like so many other pubs and bars it now faces an uncertain future.
