Batten Down The Hatches! Thunderstorms To Sweep Across The Fylde Coast
Residents across Lytham St Anne’s and the Fylde Coast are being urged to keep an eye on the skies tomorrow (Thursday 27th August) as thunderstorms, torrential rain and localised downpours are expected to sweep into the area.
Forecasters say the morning should begin on a relatively quiet note, but conditions are expected to deteriorate steadily as the day goes on.
The first showers could arrive from around 10am, becoming more widespread by late morning. The heaviest rain is expected between midday and around 3pm, when there is the greatest chance of thunder, lightning and sudden downpours.
Further heavy showers are then forecast to develop again from around 4pm through the evening, with rain continuing well into the night before gradually easing.
Temperatures will still reach around 21-22°C, but the warm, humid air will provide the perfect fuel for heavy showers and the odd thunderstorm.
Motorists are being warned to take extra care, as intense bursts of rain could quickly leave standing water on roads and reduce visibility. There’s also the possibility of brief localised flooding where the heaviest showers strike. The Met Office says the North West faces an unsettled spell with heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty conditions as low pressure moves in.
When To Expect The Worst
- 6am-9am: Mainly dry with sunny spells.
- 10am-Noon: Showers begin to develop.
- Noon-3pm: Highest risk of torrential rain and thunderstorms.
- 4pm-8pm: Further heavy showers, with thunder still possible.
- After 9pm: Rain gradually becomes lighter before easing overnight.
Anyone heading to the beach, parks or outdoor events is advised to keep a close eye on the forecast and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. If thunder is heard, the safest option is to head indoors until the storm has passed.
After Thursday’s unsettled weather, further showers are likely on Friday before conditions slowly begin to improve later in the weekend.
