Tireless Efforts Of Local Volunteers Underpins Prestigious Award For St. Anne’s Beach

The tireless, most generous efforts of local volunteers and the dedicated work of Fylde Council teams have been recognised and rewarded by the environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy, as the area of beach around St. Anne’s Pier has been awarded the prestigious Seaside Award.  This area is one of 132 beaches around the UK to have been awarded the high profile, national quality mark which recognises beaches that are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards.

A Fylde Council spokesperson said, ‘A HUGE thank you to our amazing team of volunteers, residents and community groups who work relentlessly to make this possible and Fylde even more fabulous’

Cllr Michael Sayward, Chair of Fylde Council’s Tourism and Leisure Committee, said the accolade was a great start to the summer season. The Seaside Awards celebrate the diversity and quality of our coastlines and are presented to the best beaches in England. We are absolutely thrilled to have received a Seaside Award for the beach at St Anne’s Pier. It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and commitment of local volunteers, community groups and our council teams who work relentlessly to make Fylde that bit more fabulous.

He continued, ‘As we look forward to long sunny days at the beach, everyone can enjoy this amazing space being safe in the knowledge that the area meets high standards on water quality, environmental management and safety.’

Keep Britain Tidy Keep is a leading environmental charity that works to eliminate littering, reduce waste and improve public space. It runs a variety of programmes including the Blue Flag/Seaside Awards for beaches.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said, ‘This year, more than ever, we are going to be relying on our country’s beautiful beaches to escape for a much-needed break after all the stresses and strains of the past year. Last year, due to the pandemic, we did not have the opportunity to celebrate all the great award-winning beaches around the coast so this year we are delighted to have even more winners than we did in 2019, thanks to the incredible work of the teams around the country that make our beaches clean and safe for us all to enjoy.’
